I'm a little hypocritical with this as our family car is an F11 5-series which is nudging 5m in length but to be honest I actively avoid using that for driving where I know it's size will be a burden. I hate parking it in normal car parks. Not because it's difficult but inevitably it will be taking almost all of the width up and one end will be hanging out of the space. Just seems antisocial. I know many people don't care but it does bother me. In comparison driving any of our smaller cars in busier areas is an absolute dream. A few reasons:-1) Game theory for safety as mentioned before and as exemplified by a few posters2) "Keeping up with the Jones's" / the rise and rise of the SUV (Americanisation, or just dealing with stty road surfaces, too much traffic (visibility) and having to truck around acres of ever-bigger personal kit when you've got kids and a labrador?)3) Manufacturer incentivisation (they make more profit off bigger vehicles)4) EVs up to recently being mainly bigger vehicles not small hatchbacks (to do with company car lists / demographics?)5) Manufacturer need to fit in all the extra tech / new NCAP compliance leading to continual 'creep' in the size of car generation by generation (look at the 3-series from E30 to G30!) - the interior space until EVs hasn't kept pace with the exterior footprint.Pachydermus said: Very frustrating when you're in a foreign country and it's continually trying to route down various goat tracks.At the weekend I got routed (both Waze and Google) down a single-lane twisty road only a few miles from my parents house.
