증상

타이어를 교차로 로테이션하면 더 오래 지속된다고 생각했는데, 요즘 방향성 타이어는 교차 로테이션이 불가능하다고 한다. 타이어가 이를 알아챌까? 같은 쪽에만 로테이션하면 무슨 효과가 있나?

처리 내용

타이어의 주요 마모는 프론트 액슬에서 발생한다. 두 가지 이유 때문이다. 첫째, 프론트는 조향축이므로 기하학적 변화가 크다. 코너링 시 차량의 무게가 이 타이어에 훨씬 더 강하게 작용하여 뒷바퀴보다 마모가 심하다. 둘째, 도로의 많은 차량이 전륜구동이므로 구동력으로 인한 응력이 추가로 발생한다. 반면 뒷바퀴는 주로 직진하며 끌려간다. 프론트에서 뒷부분으로 타이어를 교체하면 전후의 마모를 균등하게 한다. 이렇게 하면 모든 타이어가 균등하게 마모되어, 프론트 타이어만 마모되고 뒷바퀴가 아직 10,000km 더 사용 가능한 상황을 피할 수 있다. 과거에 하던 교차 로테이션을 이제 하지 않는 이유는 타이어가 방향성이기 때문만은 아니다 (그것도 영향을 주지만 주요 이유는 아님).
