The US is an absolute basket case. UK is joint-third best of developed nations.Norway 18Sweden 19Denmark 23United Kingdom 23Switzerland 24Japan 25Estonia 31Irish Republic 34Germany 34Finland 34Spain 36Malta 37Belgium 37Luxembourg 40Slovakia 42Netherlands 42Slovenia 43Czech Republic 44Austria 44Poland 45Cyprus 46Israel 47Hungary 48Lithuania 48Australia 48France 49New Zealand 49Italy 49Greece 50Portugal 55Latvia 63Croatia 67Romania 68Bulgaria 71Serbia 74United States of America 109That's an interesting list: people on here complain about restrictive speed limits in the UK. I've also seen many people remark on limits in the Nordics. And my experience of Switzerland is lots of restrictive speed limits (and they change very often and are enforced rather strictly). And these are the safest countries on that list. Huh. Given that most people seem to be asleep when driving, maybe speed limits do actually influence the statistics (which is something that I and many on here would be loathe to acknowledge - and yes I do realise that this doesn't mean that speed is the issue, but that bad drivers will cause more issues the faster they go).Mind you, the US stats are going to be skewed by the fact that they often drive much longer differences. I was chatting to someone who think 20h non-stop (other than refuelling and relieving themselves) isn't that abnormal.Few things about the US, their road design on the grid system leads to lots of collisions. Their road surfaces are fairly poor, not pot holey just not grippy and some biblical weather. Also their cars are crap with ABS on many ameri
