How critical is it to match the stock fuel pressure regulator pressure when replacing it?
You should be fine¹ The beauty of fuel-injection management systems is that they can compensate for slight deviations in operation via feedback. The amount of compensation is commonly referred to as " fuel trim " (because the fuel injector pulsewidth is controlled ("trimmed") by the fuel-injection management). It is not uncommon for vehicles to accommodate upto ± 25% fuel trim before giving up the ghost and throwing an error code/CEL. Getting a little geeky Warning: Engineering calculations follow. Here be dragons. A fuel injector could be approximated as pipe flow, so sqrt( P1 / P2 ) α V1 / V2 In other words, doubling fuel pressure increases fuel velocity by 44% (√2 = 1.44) If a 3 bar regulator is used, the relative change in fuel velocity is √ (3.0 / 3.09) = √0.97 = 0.985 so the fuel trims should change by +1.5%. This is well within the compensation limits of any modern-day fuel injection management system. You could even use a 3.5 bar fuel pressure regulator (6% fuel trim impact), t

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe will start then die. Then it will not start. After pumping the accelerator or holding on the floor and returning later it will start. Nothing codes out. This happens probably 15% of the time. Any ideas?

A friend has an older Miata that was improperly stored for at least three years. Most of the time, it was not garaged. The gas is old, the battery is dead, it has not been started. It was probably parked without an oil change. He is looking to do the minimum to get this sellable, so the primary concern is the initial startup and the brakes. What would be recommended , especially regarding that first engine startup?

I’ve asked a few mechanics and DIYers this question and so far no consensus. Let’s say you’re 1000 miles away from next SCHEDULED oil change, and you’re about to leave on a 2000 mile road trip. Would you choose to change your oil 1000 miles early before the trip, or 1000 miles late after the trip?
