I suppose this is something I've taught myself as time's gone by : Wheel rotation.For example, when driving and there is a side road on either the left or right. If a vehicle is on the side road looking to join the carriageway I'm on, and they are stationary then I'm watching the wheels for rotation. If they start to rotate, then I'm on the brakes. If a vehicle is on the side road and is moving, then I'm looking for a decreasing rate of rotation of the wheels to indicate a slowing down. All the Renaults that I've rented had a nice following distance (or rather time) indicator. IIRC it showed the number of seconds to the car in front up to about 2.5s (empty above that), and it turned amber below 1s. I wish all cars had that, might as well make it mandatory. It wasn't tied to ACC - I've seen it in older cars with regular cruise control, and I assume it's the same sensors that they use for collision prevention.Some countries have also introduced following distance cameras - they're a bit more complicated than regular speed cameras because they have to record over half a mile or so, to avoid fining people who've just been cut off by someone else.
