Well, after looking for what feels like almost a year for the replacement of my old mk2.5 mx5, and looking at 370z’s, caymans, Elise’s I wound up once again in another mx5. D’oh!I’d grown a bit tired of my old mk2.5 - no ac, loud exhaust, rust issues even after having spent a small fortune on fixing the already existing rust issues, and things wearing out and breaking because of the cars 22 years on the planet - and this summer I’d decided to cut my losses and just sell it, and get something a bit more reliable and hopefully a bit faster too. Time for a bit of an overdue update!The mighty Mx5 is being throughly enjoyed, been on a few roadtrips around France these last two years, and will soon be driving it down to Lisbon, via Ardeche, the pyrenees (if I get there on time before they close the mountain passes), the Picos de Europa, the Geres National Park, Douro and Serra da Estrela. Basically, just trying to avoid as much as possible using highways and just enjoying some of my favorite roads.It now has 35k kms, and has been pretty bombproof, except for erm, a gearbox failure last year. It seems that Mazda, in their efforts to keep weight down, engineered a gearbox that's light but also quite fragile - I'd heard about this when I bought mine, so purposely bought one with a Mazda warranty until 2029, and it paid itself off last summer as the gearbox started making a very loud whine in all gears.Apparently its normal if they make a whining sound, but not when its this loud: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/lAHPHTkm7wc?t=27&am...It sounded like it had straight cut gears - not good. I was very surprised by this, as I baby the engine and gearbox.It also started being hard to change gears, so I called my local Mazda dealer and they agreed to take a look at it. A few days after booking it in, they said the gearbox was on its way out and Mazda would just replace it free of charge - standard practice from what I've read in many mx5/miata related forums. New gearbox has been great so far, having covered almost 10k miles since, but I am a bit afraid of letting it go again so have started looking into other options in case it does down the line - hopefully warranty will cover it again if it does! Otherwise, It's done a couple of tracks, such as Charade and Bresse - two tracks that suit it perfectly. I did Charade with the car being completely stock, and Bresse after I installed the coilovers, which frankly, really bring out the best of the car and massively improve its behavior, it reminds me a bit of my friend's forme
