So, it's been a challenging time this past month, my dad passed away at the end of September. I should explain, my dad, stepmother and half brother live in the Caribbean where I grew up until coming back to old blighty for school... Anyway, the relevance of this is that my dad had a passion for buying weird, rare cars and he left two to me, a Matra M530 and a custom 3 axel mini clubman pickup.... Like every weird car he ever bought, they were on the road for a few years attending car shows and then they wound up in the garage collecting dust....So now I have two interesting cars that are off

I'm sorry for your loss. Sounds like your dad would have been an interesting guy to know.As to the cars, I'd take an alternative position. I'm afraid these are more likely to be a mill stone than an enjoyable inheritance. I can see from the pictures that the Matra isn't complete (front lights and bumper missing), so whilst it may have been driven and enjoyed by your dad, the condition now is a total unknown. The 3 axle Mini is an oddity with a very small market. My advice, unless the cars mean something really personal to you (like being used for a wedding or something), you'd be better to sell both as-is from where they sit. Don't get involved in cleaning or primping, just sell them literally as they are. Buyers love 'barn finds' and often pay handsomely for that dust and being the first person to make something clean. Focus your time over there on seeing family and getting things straightened out so the cars can be quickly sold. Once they've sold you could invest the proceeds into a turn key classic over here that you actually want and could use, being grateful to your dad that he's enabled you to live a dream that's yours. This will be way better than investing a load of time, effort and money into something that you can't actually use as it is and won't ever get back. Best of luck with it and remember, grief affects everyone differently and family is more important than money. If it looks like you inheriting these cars might start driving a wedge between members of your family, write them off and walk away. Nothing material is worth alienating those you love.
