증상
Toyota Starlet 라디에이터 상단부(냉각수 탱크 마개 부착 부위)가 파손되어 분리됨. 엔진룸 전체에 냉각수가 흘러있었고 냉각수 량이 매우 부족했음. 오버플로우 탱크에만 약 2.5cm 정도 남아있었음. 냉각수를 다시 채운 후 시동을 걸려고 했으나 시동이 걸리지 않음. 최근 워터펌프 교체 후 누유 없음. 라디에이터에서 엔진으로 가는 호스 누유도 수리 완료
처리 내용
냉각수 압력 테스터(coolant pressure tester) 또는 누수 진단기(leakdown tester)를 사용하여 검진할 것을 권장. 냉각수 시스템을 완전히 채운 후 압력을 가해서 점화 플러그를 모두 제거하고 손전등으로 실린더 헤드를 확인하면서 냉각수가 실린더 상단에 있는지 확인할 것. 필요하면 엔진을 손으로 천천히 회전시키면서 모든 실린더를 확인. 누수 진단기는 반대 방식으로 작동하는데, 점화 플러그 구멍을 통해 실린더 내부에 압력을 가함. 엔진을 손으로 천천히 회전시키면서 각 실린더를 한 번에 하나씩 압축 상사점(top dead center)에 맞추고 압력을 가해서 라디에이터에서 기포가 나오는지 관찰. 기포가 나오면 실린더와 냉각계통 사이에 연통이 있다는 뜻이므로 헤드 개스킷 손상, 헤드 변형, 또는 크랙 등의 심각한 문제 가능성 있음.

2014년식 Cherokee가 2023년경 정비소 방문 이후 지속적인 과열 문제 발생. 이전에는 정상 작동(210°F 이하)했으나 현재 워밍업 후 항상 210°F 이상 유지되며, 긴 언덕이나 부하 상황에서 235°F까지 급상승하여 'check gauges' 경고 표시. 시동을 끄고 후드를 열어서 다시 시동하면 세 개의 전기 팬(electric fan)이 빠르게 냉각시켜 210°F까지 급강하. 이 현상이 반복적으로 확인되고 열총(heat gun)으로도 검증됨.

I had a Dame Edna with this engine, picked it up for buttons and put about 40,000 on it and it only needed a tyre, an idler pulley, an ABS ring and a coolant return pipe. Absolutely fantastic cars - great power, good economy and I could do everything myself on the drive. Will always have a soft spot for them. Already had the uprated swirl flap bar too. Enjoy!

운전 중 갑자기 자동차가 무거워지면서 힘이 없어짐. 가스 스테이션에서 시동을 끔. 다시 시동을 걸려고 하니 크랭크는 되지만 바로 꺼짐. 2일 방치 후 돌아갔을 때 시동이 아예 안 걸리고 모터만 맴 (크랭킹음만 남). 계기판에 빨간색 냉각수 경고등이 나타남. 온도 게이지가 완전히 내려감.
